I offer group sessions on zoom almost every week with open availability. I also have limited availability for individual sessions on zoom. I am currently located on the west coast and my availability is limited due to the unpredictability of my work schedule here. I also schedule sessions around the quiz/test schedule which is only posted every few weeks. Please reach out to discuss scheduling sessions.
During the pandemic I started tutoring via Zoom. Initially, I was concerned with how effective zoom-school would be, but for biology it has worked great. Feedback from both students and parents has been very positive so I am continuing to offer tutoring via Zoom.
AAC Biology (formerly pre-AP) is a very challenging course. It is taught almost like a college-level class. It requires the student to spend a lot of time studying, outside of class time, to truly be successful in the course. While, that is good preparation for the future, it can also be quite a shock to incoming freshmen. Because of this, it is VERY common for students to reach out for biology tutoring. And I am here to help!
In addition to improving your biology grade, one of my goals is to help students build independent study strategies and improve their motivation to succeed. It is a hard class, but skills developed and practiced now will be very valuable.
The sessions are flexible and I can always help with homework or labs, but typically we spend the hour going over the material for the upcoming quiz/test. We connect via zoom + a phone call for more reliable audio (if necessary). All of the review material that we cover in the session is then available for the student to go back over and review via a google document. The document includes study guides, concept videos, diagrams, animations, practice test questions, flash cards, quizlets, links to other study materials, etc.
I accept: Venmo, Paypal & Zelle
Cancellation Policy:
Free Cancellation: if you cancel more than 48 hours before the session
50% of the session rate: if you cancel less than 48 hours before the session
100% of the session rate: if you cancel less than 12 hours before the session
My limited availability will fill up quickly! So if you need to cancel, let me know ASAP so I can offer your time slot to other students on the wait list.

“Scott taught two of my daughters in middle school and later served as a private tutor for their very challenging freshman bio course. He goes above and beyond to prepare for his tutoring sessions, even creating elaborate study guides and other materials”
“As a parent of a student in his class and of a student he tutored for the last 2 years, I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Etzel for the past 3 years. He is truly a great, proactive, and inspiring teacher who has instilled a love of science in my children”
“Scott is an excellent motivator and has encouraged my kids to do better in their academic pursuits. He has a great ability to connect with students and a talent for teaching concepts from advanced to simple in easy to understand methods.”
“Mr. Etzel is very professional and knowledgeable in all aspects of science education. Unlike most tutors, he takes extra time to review the teacher’s curriculum and prepare for tutoring sessions. He had an excellent rapport tutoring my son in biology, which is why we have retained his tutoring services again this year for chemistry and physics”
"Scott has been a complete life saver for my high school student. She was really struggling in Biology and doing poorly on tests. Within a short period of time, he has helped her bring up her overall grade. She is doing much better on tests, quizzes and classwork. She has better comprehension, and most importantly he has boosted her self confidence. I highly recommend Scott!"
